Squirrels can cause a lot of damage to your roof, attic, walls and other parts of your house, if you are hearing the sound of little rodent feet in your roof it is time to take action before it is too late. You may be surprised  to know that most  homeowners are unaware as to how the squirrels gain entry in the house. When you gain awareness as to how they enter your roof and house, you win half the battle and the other half can be won when you block the entry points preventing access to the roof. How to close possible squirrel entry points in my roof?

The first thing that you need to do to prevent access of squirrels on the roof is to check for trees that have branches extending on the roof. It is best to trim these branches so that easy access is stopped. Inspect the roof for any tiny holes that could have allowed the squirrel to gain entry. Inspect the exteriors of the house thoroughly so that you are able to identify entry points. Look for tiny gaps and any kind of rot in the roof that may allow these small rodents to gain entry.

After you have identified all entry points in the roof you need a good plan to seal all these points. All possible entrances need to be sealed and secured. All holes on the roof need to be closed in a secure manner. You need to remember that squirrels can chew and scratch wood and other material and it is important that you prevent it. You can make use of steel mesh or sheet metal as they cannot be chewed. If you find rotting wood it needs to be replaced immediately.

It is advisable to periodically check the roof for any weakness that may help the squirrels gain an entrance to your roof once again.
